No, I am not about to review the wonderful book written by Jhumpa Lahiri or the movie (which wasn't as good as the book...as always). Although i know what Gogul must have felt. What's in a name? Parents go through months of torture when we're still embryo's (or zygotes for some) just thinking of names for their tiny tot. I love my folks to bits and appreciate their effort in naming me but i'm sorry ma & na, i jus simply dislike my name. I am named after a Hindu goddess of Power ( yeah go ahead and laugh, i get that a lot). I have the highest degree of respect for this goddess whom i'm named after but I just don't see why I have to carry the name!
I love my dads name though (if thats any consolation to him). I used to go around using my dad's name instead, which did get its fair amount of teasing too (yeah i know, some fools just don't grow up)!
Which brings me to another gripe (most of my friends are sick of this). I HAVE to and MUST rant about this. Some people either have dyslexia or are just plain ignorant when it comes to remembering or even writing down my name. Its Gowri Paary. Gowri with an I. yes an I, not a Y!!! Imagine, having to see your name in a papers coupled with a lovely picture and it states GowrY instead of GowrI! I'd go, "That ain't me fellas, that's my evil twin!". I mean, why can't people get it right? I know some of you may think "oh get over it, its just a name" well it is MY NAME, not yours buddy! Oh the horror of living the rest of your life with people getting your already disliked name wrong.
Then i came across this guy who has a lovely english name paired with another lovely Bengali name that is completed with a real cool family name and yet he complaints! He said he had trouble having to fill up his forms for his exams during school days. For me, I'd rather have a long name and take half an hour to fill forms up! I know, there is nothing i can do (no, im not pulling a miley rae cyrus and change my name, i'm no diva)! I'll just be a lovely parent to my kid and god forbid i give mini me a crappy name!

As far as name laments go, my favorite comes at the end of the Crucible, when John Proctor cries out, "I have given you my soul; leave me my name!"
